Dear Union Veterans,
I’m writing to you today with a heavy heart, but also with a call to action that we cannot ignore. Recently, Donald Trump used Arlington National Cemetery's Section 60—where many of our brothers and sisters rest—as a backdrop for a political campaign ad. This act shows a blatant disregard for the sanctity of this sacred ground, where countless American heroes, including some of our own, have been laid to rest.
As many of you know, Section 60 holds a deeply personal meaning for me. Every Memorial Day, I visit this hallowed ground to honor the memory of my friends—true heroes who gave their lives for the freedoms we all cherish. It is unfathomable that anyone would use this space for self-serving political gain. Yet, Trump has done just that.
President Lincoln once reminded us at Gettysburg that "It is for us, the living, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they have, thus far, so nobly carried on." We must honor the sacrifices made by our fallen comrades by speaking out against this profound disrespect.
