Standing With Us: Defending the Honor of Our Fallen Heroes
Sep 03, 2024

Dear Union Veterans,

I’m writing to you today with a heavy heart, but also with a call to action that we cannot ignore. Recently, Donald Trump used Arlington National Cemetery's Section 60—where many of our brothers and sisters rest—as a backdrop for a political campaign ad. This act shows a blatant disregard for the sanctity of this sacred ground, where countless American heroes, including some of our own, have been laid to rest.

As many of you know, Section 60 holds a deeply personal meaning for me. Every Memorial Day, I visit this hallowed ground to honor the memory of my friends—true heroes who gave their lives for the freedoms we all cherish. It is unfathomable that anyone would use this space for self-serving political gain. Yet, Trump has done just that.

President Lincoln once reminded us at Gettysburg that "It is for us, the living, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they have, thus far, so nobly carried on." We must honor the sacrifices made by our fallen comrades by speaking out against this profound disrespect.

Take Action: Make Your Voice Heard

The Union Veterans Council is not standing by silently, and neither should you. We are calling on all our members to make your voices heard. Share your thoughts on this issue by creating a short video expressing how you feel about the use of Arlington National Cemetery for political purposes.

How to Participate:

  1. Record Your Video: Share your thoughts, emotions, and reactions in your own words. Speak from the heart.
  2. Submit Your Video: Click the link below to upload your video to our platform. Submit Your Video Here https://labor2024.capsule.video/

Spread the Word: Share on Social Media

In addition to sharing your personal story, we’re asking you to help spread the word by sharing our social media posts. Amplifying this message is crucial to ensuring that our voices are heard far and wide.

Additionally, I’m proud to share that my letter to the editor was recently featured in The Washington Post, where I addressed this issue directly. You can read the full article here.

Your voice matters. Together, we can ensure that the dignity of our fallen heroes is upheld and that their sacrifice is never trivialized.

Thank you for standing with us in this critical fight.

In Solidarity,

Will Attig
Executive Director, Union Veterans Council
